Musk has always held a special place in my work. I have spent years exploring how its character shifts depending on its origin, from the smooth animalic warmth of Siberian musk, to the earthy richness of Mongolian material, and the gentle floral lift of Kashmiri musk shaped by the high Himalayas. Each brings its own story and personality, and that variety continues to inspire me.
With MISK, I wanted to create a fragrance where musk is not softened or treated as a supporting note. I wanted it to remain central, authentic and true to itself. This makes MISK quite different from our Musc 1960, which showcases the gentle vintage charm of aged Tonkin absolute from Grasse. MISK is more direct and more confident in its identity.
To achieve this, a proprietary method was used that goes far beyond simple maceration. Over a six month period, Mysore sandalwood, Kashmiri and vintage Siberian Himalayan musks, and aged Malaysian oud were placed together in a controlled environment, allowing them to gradually transform as one, resulting in a more unified and seamless composition.
MISK opens with a smooth yet unmistakably animalic expression of real musk. As it continues to evolve on the skin, softer nuances begin to appear: a touch of floral brightness from the Kashmiri material, a cocoa like warmth from the Siberian profile, and a quiet woody depth supporting everything beneath. These shifts unfold steadily over many hours, giving MISK a character that remains engaging from start to finish.
Although the bottle states Eau de Parfum, MISK is in fact an Extrait, just like the other three releases in this collection, with a powerful 30 per cent concentration. For those less familiar with fragrance terminology: an Eau de Parfum usually contains around 12 to 20 per cent perfume concentration, leading to a somewhat lighter presence on the skin. An Extrait has a much higher concentration, offering greater depth, richness and longevity, something particularly important when working with rare and complex natural materials such as true musk.
Because of the rarity of the ingredients and the demanding nature of the process involved, only a very limited number of bottles were produced, just into double digits. Once these have been claimed, this exact version of MISK will not be made again.
